Stay at the Historic Bryson House!

Former city mayor John Rodell Bryson purchased Block 16 of the county addition of Marysville (now Corvallis) Oregon in 1881 and had the original home built on in 1882. The address today is: 242 NW 7th Street, Corvallis Oregon 97330.
Of Italianate architecture, popular from the 1850s to the 1880s, the house was built with characteristically fine cornice work, a columned porch, decorative brackets, intact wood blinds on many of the windows, and a free standing wood staircase inside the foyer.

In 1912, The J.R. Bryson House was purchased by the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority at the college. Then in 1920, the house became The Manor Apartments, divided into 6 units. The property, listed on the National Registry of Historic Places in 1979, now contains five uniquely designed one-bedroom furnished apartments is simply known as The Bryson House today.

About J.R. Bryson
Graduating in 1874 from Corvallis college (now Oregon State University), he soon became admitted to the Oregon State Bar and began practicing law in 1876.
Mr Bryson served as City Recorder, two terms of Mayor (1880-1882) and Benton County Judge from 1882-1886. He then served secretary of Oregon Agricultural College building committee and was instrumental in the construction of Community Hall in 1888, now the oldest building still on the OSU campus today.
Mr. Bryson died in 1897 at the age of 43.
